Shopping Influence and Identity Essay

Shopping plays an important role in my life besides just shooting a basketball, and going to college. For most shopping isn’t a big deal. Some people spend their time on other things rather than shop. Shopping tells a lot about a person’s identity, choices, style, and personal identity. I love to shop there are a few stores that are favorites when I tend to have a few dollars to spend here and there. Without shopping I don’t know what I will do as much as basketball is addictive; shopping is as well. Shopping influences choices such as to where I shop?

Why I shop? And with whom I shop. Advertisement is the appeal to my identity and a big influence to the choices I make. Shopping by all means necessary is a choice made by me, largely through the appeal of and influence of advertising. Zara, Ralph Lauren, American Eagle, and Oxford Street are a few of my favorite stores to go to when I shop. These four stores represent my style of dress, fashion, identity and appeal because of the displays of advertisement which influence someone like me to make a choice that fits me.

Advertisement has a lot to do with where I shop. The clothes, shoes, styles, and images influence me to select an appeal for which my identity stands out from the rest of the individuals in the world. For example when I am shopping and I see an advertisement of an outfit or some shoes that tends to be to my liking more than likely I will buy because it represents what I like and how I like to dress. Where I shop tells a lot about me from my likings of dressing to a certain standard, looking good, personality, appearance, choice selection, and personal identity.

Shopping relaxes my mind, body, and soul. I shop to get away from life for the time being, and to have some personal time with myself. My personal time consist of things such as clearing my head, setting goals, thinking about my career, planning a life for my son, getting the rest of my priorities straight, and a self check from time to time. Nothing else matters when I shop but the thoughts that come about in my head, relaxing, and enjoying the moment of shopping being creative to my identity.

Majority of the time when I shop I am more than likely with someone because I tend to shop at random times I don’t plan when I shop it just happens, or it comes about when my son or I are really in the need of a particular item at the moment. I tend to shop very randomly with friends, associates, girlfriend, and family members. 40% of my decisions are influenced through the person I am shopping with during the time. Advice is always good while shopping according to my theory. Input gives me a balance between my own personal decision and the opinion of my partner. Most of the time just being there when I shop influences my choices.

Picking something that someone sees as not a good choice second guesses my thought to reconsider my choice selection. What do you think? Is the question I always ask my partner when shopping, someone else’s opinion can be very helpful at times and in need when making tough decisions before getting frustrated or upset. Shopping with my girlfriend is extremely hard and it puts me in a difficult situation amongst the view of a woman’s eye and the creativity of a man’s identity she’s thinking one thing while I’m thinking the total opposite which causes us to clash at a decision making point her opinion against my decision.

Compromising with my girlfriend’s opinions and decisions is what I try to balance out majority of the time when we shop to keep down the persuasiveness and competiveness between the two of us when she inputs on my decision making. Shopping with my friends, associates, and family is no pressure feels like I’m at the gym knocking down consistent jumpers during a workout when shopping with them. They constantly agree with whatever decision it is that I make and influence me to keep my decision final most of the time.

When it comes to making choices I pretty much make the right decisions all the time which is probably why they encourage me to keep my decision final. Advertising appeals to my personal identity. The desire to buy a particular item comes from the appeal of my personal identity. However a particular item explains my identity and tells something about me personally through the appeal of advertisement. Jordan tennis shoes, Zara clothing, watches, and necklaces are particular items I have a desire to buy.

The appeal that these items represent is a part of my personal identity appeal. Jordan shoes are made in different styles from casual to hard bottoms one thing that’s real unique about Jordan shoes is the logo on the shoe which is Michael Jordan with his legs spread apart dunking a basketball. The logo is an advertisement that sells itself. A Pair of Jordan’s tells I have style and I like to wear name brand sneakers. Zara clothing brings out my style of dress and first impression, which I consider a big factor of my personal identity known as ppearance. As an example I would consider an expensive pair of pants, shirt, and shoes that is made from good quality and also guaranteed to last a while. Expensive clothing that makes me stand out and look different is my style of dress, first impression, and appearance to my personal identity.
